An Overview of the Different Types of Washers
We are a company that can produce any type of washer you need. We have the standard flat washers, specialty flat washers, lock/tab washers, beveled washers, spring washers, and many other types of washers. Washers are an essential component of machinery of all kinds of industries across the board. In just about every garage or shop in America, you will find used washers and new washers of all types in boxes, bags, or bins. No one really knows the history of the common washer, but almost everyone knows how important they are.
The standard flat washer comes as standard wrought or S.A.E. There are different types of flat washers and they are designated as U.S.S. or S.A.E. U.S.S. stands for United States Standard, and these washers were developed to meet the engineering requirements for most industrial applications. The S.A.E. designation stands for the Society of Automotive Engineers who developed these flat washers to meet automotive manufacturer requirements. Getting them mixed up could have disastrous results.
Next are specialty flat washers which come in many different shapes and styles. C shaped, D shaped, disc, fender, flattened shaft, rectangular, lock/tab, retaining, square, star disc, beveled, star, and wide sidewall are examples of other specialty flat washers. Some of them come with a hexagonal, off-center, or square hole in their centers.
Square and Rectangular Washers
Square and rectangular washers are used when the standard round washers don’t fit. The benefit of using square or rectangular washers instead of round washers is that their sides stop them from rotating. We have square and rectangular metallic washers made of brass, aluminum, stainless steel, and steel. These washers also come in non-metallic materials like ABS plastic, nylon, polyester, polycarbonate, polyethylene, and NEMA-grade laminates. Some of the finishes available on our square and rectangular washers are a passivated finish, a tin dip finish, or a zinc, cadmium, or nickel plating.
You might be looking for S.A.E. washer to rebuild the engine of your sports car. Maybe your aircraft has had some engine parts wear out and you need to replace them. A factory that produces food products has many machines to process and package their products for grocery store shelves, and each machine needs to be maintained and repaired. Square and rectangular washers are really what make the world go around by being part of the assembly of all these machines and more. Without these small, but very important, parts, machines as we know them, wouldn’t function or would not function very well at all.
You won’t find this caliber or these types of square and rectangular washers at your local hardware store, but we can make any kind of washer you need. With over 100 years of producing precision washers and shims, we understand what it takes to produce and deliver quality components to the building, aerospace, electrical, distribution, medical, energy, agriculture, machinery and process equipment, compressor, motor, pump, automotive, electronic, and consumer products industries. These industries rely on our fast shipping and trust our standard of excellence.
